The Hear and Say Centre is one of the leading Paediatric Auditory-Verbal and cochlear implant centres in the world, teaching children who are deaf or hearing impaired to listen and speak since 1992. The Centre aims for its children to achieve speech and language in the normal range for their age by six years of age giving them the opportunity for a mainstream education, employment of choice and social integration with the hearing world.
The Shepherd Centre is a charity which began in 1970 helping deaf and hearing-impaired children learn to listen and speak so they can reach their individual potential. Over 30% of children attending our early intervention program have additional disabilities to hearing loss. We provide our services free of charge to families and only receive limited government funding, we rely heavily on the generosity of the community to help us continue to make a difference.
Taralye – the oral language centre for deaf children is Victoria’s leading oral language centre, providing services to deaf and hearing impaired children and their families throughout the state. Hearing impairment is a significant condition in newborns, and permanent hearing impairment affects approximately 1000 babies in Australia each year. Without the services provided by Taralye young babies and children would not have access to the world of hearing or spoken language. Taralye aims to improve the language skills and educational and social outcomes of deaf children through a range of early childhood programs for children aged 0-6 years.
The Cora Barclay Centre provides family focused Auditory-Verbal Therapy for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and wear hearing aids, cochlear implants or other listening devices. Our Auditory Verbal therapists guide parents to teach their children to listen and acquire spoken language. The Centre offers early intervention services for 0-6 year olds and support services for school students up to the age of 18 years. Audiology services, professional counselling, family support and mentoring are also available.
